Social Behavior Tests

Social Behavior Tests

Performing and evaluating social behavior tests in rodents can be a challenging task as observed behaviors are often difficult to interpret. QPS Neuropharmacology therefore offers two behavioral tests that are proven to reliably generate robust data about social behavior – the autogrooming test and three chamber social test. Available tests were already successfully validated in house.

Social behavior is a fundamental dimension of human existence and a major determinant of the overall well-being of individuals. In the framework of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, social behaviors are important to track since many disorders are characterized by impairments in social functioning.

Social behavior can involve various parameters including communication, affiliative or aggressive behaviors, and asocial behaviors. Changes are observed in patients of various diseases such as autism spectrum disorderFragile X syndromeParkinson’s diseaseschizophrenia and many more. These disorders are characterized by impairments in cognitive, emotional, and social functioning. Possible readouts include but are not limited to repetitive or asocial behavior.

Selection of the proper social tests further strongly depends on the motivation and motor deficits of the rodent model. Social behavior tests are widely used to evaluate the pathology of rodent models but even more for pharmacological research to analyze the efficacy of new drug candidates against social behavior deficits. These tests can provide valuable insights into the drug’s potential clinical utility. Usually, a combination of different social behavior tests is needed to receive a comprehensive overview of symptoms and to evaluate the efficacy of a drug candidate.

We are happy to receive your inquiry to elaborate on the most efficient options for your in vivo study and to complement behavioral testing with immunohistochemicalbiochemical, and molecular biological techniques.

We offer various tests to evaluate social behavior in rodents. Can’t find what you are looking for? We are constantly establishing new tests and would be glad to develop tests according to your requirements.
